Garden 2016

Two babies aren't all we've been growing this year.

We love having a garden!

It's so nice/fun to be able to just walk into the backyard and pick produce for dinner or for lunch!

This year Sweet Girl planted Baby Pumpkins.

 Berries (they are perennials, so we had them last year too, but we loooovvvee our berries!)

Seriously, berries from the store do not taste like fresh berries!

 Our apple trees actually produced apples this year!

 And our plum tree also produced plums for the first time this year!

We had so many apples on the trees in the beginning of the summer but when it came time to pick them, we only had enough for about one apple pie.

We did eat a few as just apples, but I was hoping for a lot more pies!

Oh well, this one was delicious!

Tomatoes and strawberries, this picture was taken at the beginning of the summer, they are still producing and they are about 6 feet tall! It is so crazy how well tomatoes grow here!

The strawberries were still around from last year.

Sadly, I think we were only able to eat one strawberry because some sort of pest kept eating them all right when they got ready to pick! But they sure are pretty!

We planted several bell pepper plants this year because last year we got about 4, this year we've gotten SO many bell peppers. Thankfully we love bell peppers! Sweet Girl loves them raw and will just eat and eat and eat them!

We got a few cucumbers and quite a bit of peas.

The corn... it looked so good and then when we opened them up there were about 3 kernels to each ear. That was sad.

It's like our family! I'm still in shock that we are going to have five people in our family pretty soon!

 This year I also planted a sensitive plant in the house,

my Grandmother B had these when I was little and they fascinated me!

Grandmother gave my Mom some seeds and I asked my mom if I could have them and she said I could!

I was a little nervous I wouldn't be able to get them to grow, I've never had much luck with growing plants from seeds. But this little guy grew like a champ! And is STILL ALIVE! I'm in shock because I quite often forget to water it! Thankfully I'm better at caring for humans than I am with plants!

It's super neat plant though, when you touch the leaves they close up! Then after a while they relax again. It also closes up at night. 

Garden 2015

I love having a garden

I love going out and getting fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, etc from my backyard.

I think one reason I love it so much is because I always thought I would kill anything I ever planted,

I tried to grow flowers in my room when I was little and killed all of them... lol!

I can't take credit for this garden though, my Sweet Husband planted it all.

I did help pick out the plants.

We have (from top to bottom)

Four kinds of tomatoes, four bell pepper plants, one jalapeno plant, one cilantro plant, four strawberry plants, and one lemon cucumber plant.

These pictures are from July 12th.

We've picked four large tomatoes and a few strawberries so far.

funny story with the berries:

A berry bush from our neighbor's yard grew through our fence, after trying to kill it because we thought it was a weed a few years ago, we decided to cut it off and transplant it last year.

It grew and grew and grew but didn't produce anything of substance, everything was dried out by the time we saw any berries.

But this year it has a million little berries, and all along we thought it was a raspberry plant but Saturday I saw that a lot of the berries were black... lol! It's a blackberry plant! 

We picked a least 50 berries Saturday!

And they are so yummy!

The prophet said to plant a garden

Each year we want to plant a garden. Two years ago we had a few plants, a tomato plant and three bell pepper plants. They did pretty well and we really enjoyed having tomatoes and bell peppers when we wanted. Then last year we weren't able to have one because we thought we'd be gone for a long time, so we didn't ever plant anything. This year we decided we were going to plant one no matter what! So when we got back from Hawaii we got to work. 

We decided that it would be a good idea to have a raised planter bed since we have such a problem with gophers. My sweet husband and my sweet brother-in-law poured the concrete before we left, I believe. Our garden is growing so well! We are so happy! I can't wait until we get to pick some of our produce! We also have some fruit trees and berry bushes that are coming along pretty well.
