For Dad

This post is really for our dads.

Also, to explain the chair, we have these pretty flimsy chairs from IKEA

(no offense to IKEA, they have served us well!)

but my Dad and my dear husband's Dad hate them!

Every time they come to visit us they comment on our chairs

and how we should get different ones...

it's actually quite entertaining.

Well, now they can visit and not worry about our chairs!

However, we currently only have three, we're searching for three more!

Thrift stores are awesome!

Wichita Adventure: Part 1

I decided to make it so these three read chronologically, so then you can just scroll down and get the story the right way rather than having to scroll down and up, down and up.. hopefully that makes it a little more enjoyable to read. :)

After the wedding, we got to go to Wichita for few work meetings.

I got to go to play and be with him!

It was really fun,

and really cold,

but more fun than cold.

We got there on Monday.

We didn't have any obligations so we decided to go out to dinner and then go to a movie.

Apparently it was the coldest day they'd had in FIVE years,

knowing that now, it makes sense why we were the ONLY people in the theater!

This a picture of the theater after we walked down the steps after the movie.

We didn't realize that we were the only ones in the theater besides the workers until we saw two workers come in during our movie to see if we were still there, and then after we noticed that there were only three cars in the parking lot, one being our rental car!

It was fun to have the whole theater to ourselves! lol!

We saw Harry Potter 7A, and I won't lie we totally jumped in a few parts.

One day before we went out to dinner with some of his coworkers,

we were driving around and saw this:

That's right, a Coleman museum!

It was pretty cool, the front part of the store had the museum and it was a bunch of old time Coleman camping gear! I enjoyed it. The rest of it was a store.

We also found this park thing with this sign.

It made me laugh.

We ate out A LOT... by the end of the trip we were both ready for some home cooked meals, but I can't say that we had any bad food, it was all really delicious!

We got to go out to eat with some of his coworkers a several times, it was fun to get to know them a little better, and to put faces to some of the names I hear about.

Friday night we went to a Thunder Hockey game!

I'd never been to a live hockey game, the closest I'd ever been was Mighty Ducks 1, 2, and 3...

Their mascot was pretty entertaining.

He came out on this ranger several times and spun around the ice, it looked like fun!

We didn't get to see any full on fights, the refs were a little too good, but it was still fun to seem them check each other and really get into the game!

The fans REALLY get into the game in hockey!

While were in Wichita we saw a bunch of things that just made us laugh out loud.

I've already shared a few I think, the signs,

But one of the best things we saw

was a lady at the gas station.

She was wearing

a bright red bathrobe,

pajama pants,

and high heels

and she had some serious bed head

keep in mind, it was 1 in the afternoon!

Lol!

Good times.

Wichita Adventure: Part 2

I guess technically this should be Independence, MO adventure.

We figured that since we were fairly close to some Church history sites,

we'd go see them while we were there.

He'd never been to the sites, I'd gone with my family with my family when I was younger, it was fun to get to experience them together.

In Independence we were able to go to the Independence Visitor Center.

It was really neat, very interactive and fun.

One of the missionaries that showed us around used to be a Cougarette,

it was pretty funny because I thought to myself, she looks really familiar,

then my dear husband said, "Was she a cougarette?"

That's why she looked familiar! lol!

At the visitor center they had a cool exhibit there, it was a bunch of statues of Christ.

It was really neat, I should have taken some pictures, but I wasn't sure if I could.

So just, believe me that they were pretty.

After that we went to the Liberty Jail Visitor Center.

Apparently, this time of year is really slow, so we were the only ones in our tour.

It was really nice because we got to just sit and ponder and take in all the things to see at our own pace.

After church on Sunday we went to Far West and Adam-Ondi-Ahmen.

Once again, not many people there so we got to spend as much time as we wanted at each place.

One thing, I love about our church is that even though the temple site is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, there was still a clean HEATED restrooms!

Then we went to Adam-Ondi-Ahmen.

This was one of my favorite places when I went with my family,

it's really neat because the acoustics at this place are so neat!

He said he could kind of hear me, but I remember it being crystal clear.

I wonder if the freezing air and the lack of leaves played into the reason why he couldn't hear me as well... who knows.

We still really liked seeing it.

A pretty sunset on our way back to Independence.

On Monday, before we left, we went on a walking tour of some history sites.

Well, we started out walking, but it started raining, so we turned it into a driving tour.. lol.

We also went to Kansas City and checked out a Harley-Davidson factory.

It was pretty cool, and now my sweet husband wants one

really badly.

I have to say, he looks pretty good on one... lol.

I'm not so sure if it really fits me though...

Wichita Adventure: Part 3

We experienced a few more firsts the second week we were in Wichita!

The first new thing we experienced was freezing rain:

I'd heard of this phenomenon, but never actually experienced it.

And I think I would be happy if I never experienced it again... :)

It's kind of scary!

You see the water falls down just like rain, which I like,

but as soon as it hits again, it freezes,

which I don't like.

If we hadn't had anything planned that night we would have just stayed inside and ordered pizza.

But we had tickets to see a WSU basketball game.

It was fun to watch, it was a really close game!

One of my sweet husband's mission friends plays on the team, so it was fun to watch him too.

The second first we experienced that week, was changing rooms in a hotel.

Not the biggest thing in the world, but I'd never complained to a hotel before.

I was in our room waiting for my dear husband to get back from work when I seriously couldn't breathe because it reeked of cigarette smoke!

To be honest before our stay at our hotel, I didn't think there were still smoking rooms in hotels, or at least not right next to non-smoking rooms, I thought they were at least separated.

Apparently, not at this hotel,

which is fine because they moved us to a nice room, that smelled nice.

However, this room had a few funny quirks,

about 20 minutes after we'd just unpacked in our new room we heard a strange gurgling sound.

It was the sink in the kitchen area...

something was coming up from the disposal... lol!

Luckily, it went down after a bit, and only did that a few more times during the rest of our stay.

It made us laugh that right after we'd changed rooms something went wrong with the next room,

but I think it added a little spice to the trip, in a good way... lol!

Oh, I have to tell about our experience leaving on Friday.

Like I said, we had a rental car, so we had to return it,

well we planned on giving ourselves an hour and a half to turn it in,

check into our flights, and make it our gates.

But, we didn't get out exactly when we planned.

However, it turns out at the Wichita airport, that is not a big deal... lol!

We turned in the car, checked into our flights, made it through security,

and got to our gate in twenty minutes!

Sweet!

All in all we had a great time, it was nice to get to spend a little time together in a new place!

2011 Resolutions

One of the great things about a new year, is that we get to make new goals. Sometimes these goals only last about a month, sometimes as long as until June, but somewhere during the year, they tend to fade. Often they get forgotten completely. Sometimes I doing fairly well, I may not do whatever the goal is as often as I planned but I do it fairly regularly. However, this year, I'm committed to not letting them fizzle out so quickly, actually not letting they fizzle.

One of the goals that I pretty much make every year is to get in better shape. I pretty much never workout... I want to just feel healthier. So I've started working out. I found some good workout videos on youtube, I was a little skeptical that they would do anything at first, but after the first day I was so sore! Granted, today was the second day, but I'll try to keep you informed.

So basically readers, even though I'm not telling you all of my goals, I'm hoping that by telling you a little bit about them I'll feel a little more motivated to keep them.

Laughter is the best medicine!

I love finding funny little things throughout the day.

We saw this the other day, and today I finally got a picture of it.

It made me laugh so hard when I saw it!

Wedding Weekend!

We got to celebrate this weekend!

My dear husband's sister got married to a wonderful guy on Saturday.

We had a great time partying with them!

On Friday we helped finish decorating the church for the reception.

My sweet mother-in-law and some wonderful ladies in her ward helped do so much on Thursday so we didn't have a ton to do on Friday.

I finished the table toppers.

My hott husband hung the lights:

Then we had a great dinner with the groom's family to get to know each other.

Then we went to bed and woke up and got ready for the big day!

We had a curling iron mishap with our poor little nephew in the morning,

but besides that sad encounter the day went fairly smoothly.

Of course my sister-in-law looked beautiful!

I snapped a photo while we were waiting for our turn,

but then pretty much forgot my camera for the rest of the day.

However, I know that in a few weeks their AWESOME photographer will have their pictures online for all to see.

All in all, it was a great weekend and I know they will be really happy together!

They are so cute together and I love to see how in love they are!

Although, sometimes it's a bit much... lol.

Snow, snow, and more snow

I'm a lot like my Dad when it comes to snow.

It's beautiful to look at,

Fun to visit,

but not fun to live in.

What can I say, I'm a desert rat.

Example #1

After leaving town for about 10 days we came home to no water.

It had been shut off.

At first we were afraid it was because we'd turned off our heat while we were gone.

Turns out it was the spigot next to the house... phwew.

Luckily our neighbor saw it and told our landlord.

So no water when we got home.

Thankfully we had water stored up, so we could still brush our teeth!

This is kind of funny though, and I think it shows you how cold it got,

and probably why our pipe broke.

We have icicle lights, but apparently some of the lights were feeling left out.

Here is kind of an example of visiting the snow.

While we were visiting my family I found a camera, sweet...

however, the pictures it took were not so sweet.

My brother, my sweet husband, and I went to see the snow,

because it snowed fairly close to where my family lives... which is fairly unusual.

Well, my little brother was so cold that he pulled his hood around his face...

that's what the picture is supposed to show.

We did have a good time visiting the snow on the ranger,

tubing in it...

but it's not my favorite to live in...

oh well.

Christmas!

We had a wonderful Christmas!

I love Christmas, it's one of my favorite times of the year!

I especially liked wearing shorts on Christmas day! It was amazing!

We were very blessed!

And extremely blessed because we got to visit both of our families!

I love spending time with family!

And we have great families!

We spent the 23rd through the 27th with his family

and the 28th through the 1st with my family.

We had a wonderful time!

I never got around to taking pictures Christmas day.

The day after Christmas we went to see

this really cool water fountain show that the city puts on for free,

but it wasn't working, so we rode the trolley because it was also free.

It was decorated really cute and we had a fun time.
