Honesty

Today our lesson for Sunbeams

was "I can be honest".

So we started the lesson by trying to describe what honest means.

We tried to describe it in a way that they would understand.

So my sweet husband says something along the lines of how when we say something that is true,

we are being honest.

So to demonstrate this he says,

"If I ask *little boy 1* if his shirt is blue, and he says yes, he is being honest."

So he asks *little boy 1* if his shirt is blue and *little boy 1* says, "Yes".

So we said, you are being honest!

He then asked *little boy 2* if he was wearing a vest,

and *little boy 2* said, "Yes".

So once again we thanked him for being honest!

Finally, he asked the little girl in our class if she was wearing a pink dress.

She said she was.

And we thanked her for being honest.

Then after we did that he said,

"So what does it mean to be honest?"

*Little boy 2* shoots up his hand.

We call on him and he says,

"Being honest means that when you ask someone what color their shirt is and they tell you, that is being honest."

Lol! How cute!

We then tried to figure out ways to clarify a little...

hopefully we got through to them.

Fall Wreath

During a trip to JoAnn for fabric for Super Saturday,

my mother-in-law and I noticed 60% off fall garlands!

Sweet!

After my mother-in-law told me that her wreath was just a garland attached to a wreath, 

I decided to give it a try.

Here is what I came up with:

I love it!

All I did was attach the two garlands to a grapevine wreath

(graciously donated to the project by my sweet mother-in-law).

I used fishing line to attach it.

Then I made a pretty bow and hot glued it to a spot that was lacking a little.

Done.

Playing Library

I thought I would share a funny story.

So when I was little, my siblings, cousins, and I would play a fun game we liked to call Library.

After gathering tons of books, pulling out the tower of my parents' computer, and finding our library cards,

one person would stand behind "the desk" and be the librarian.

The rest would check out books and then after a little while we would return them and check out more.

Sounds exciting right?

Well, the best part was we would pretend that the floppy disk drive was the library card scanner.

So obviously everyone wanted to be the librarian because that meant you got to slide the library cards.

We'd stick it in and pull it out quickly.

But you HAD to make sure you held onto the card 

or it would get stuck in the floppy disk drive and then our game was over...

because isn't it obvious?

We'd get in trouble.

I'm not sure exactly how many library cards we got stuck in the floppy disk drive, but it was quite a few.

So I told you that story to tell you this story.

As I mentioned in my blind hem post, I took pictures yesterday as I was hemming my pants.

I still had a little while before I needed to get ready for work
so I figured I'd put the pictures on our computer and write up the tutorial
while it was still fresh in my mind how to do it.

Our laptop has a cool little card reader built in,

which is SUPER handy because then I don't have to find my cord to upload pictures.

So I take my card out of my camera and try to stick it into the slot.

Of course I did it without looking because I do it all the time.

Well, the first attempt I hit the side of the computer, 

so I figured the slot was just up a little more.

It went right in.

Although, it wasn't the card reader spot...

it was CD drive!

Our CD drive doesn't pop out it is just a slot...

And you guessed it, I let go and the card got stuck!

After I tried getting it out for a little while, I was afraid I would scratch something if I tried too long, 

I sent my sweet husband a text.

After telling him what happened, 

he sent me a text that said,

"Playing library?"

Blind hem tutorial

This tutorial is more for me,

but if it helps you out that is great too!

I'm not trying to sound selfish,

it is just that every time I go to hem my pants I have to relearn how to do a blind hem.

So yesterday as I was hemming my pants before work I took pictures along the way.

So here goes.

First, find pants that need to be hemmed, for me that would be most of them

Second, turn pants inside out.

Then roll to desired length.

Now the rolling step may be avoided if you are only hemming an inch or so,

in this case I was hemming about 4 inches so if I didn't roll it my hem would be 4 inches up my leg 

and that would look silly.

Third, take pants in your hand.

This is the crucial step.

Fold the section you are hemming back inside of the pant leg with about an 1/8 inch hanging out.

So it looks like this.

The little 1/8 inch section closest to my palm is the hemming section, 

the part on the left is the rest of the pant leg

Fourth, pin in place.

It should look like this when you are finished.

Or even better if you are really precise

Now, for these next parts I used a sewing machine.

If you use a sewing machine it must have a blind hem foot and stitch.

If your sewing machine doesn't have either of these then you can do it by hand.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with that because I've never done it that way... maybe someday I'll try it.

Maybe.... probably not, sorry. :)

So back to the tutorial.

Fifth, place your fabric under the foot so that the little fin thing is right at the edge of the rest of the pant leg,

then sew all the way around.

Sixth, inspect your work..

I didn't catch some of the pant leg part so I had to go back and make sure I got it.

Then take the pins out and turn right side out.

Then it is good to iron it so that it lays nice.

That's it, you are finished! YAY!

PS If you have to unpick it and start over 15 times, that's okay too :) I've been there!

Sewing can be dangerous!

Last Thursday we were working on our home,

like we usually do.

My sweet husband was working on our bay window in one of our bedrooms.

He was using the table saw, circular saw, and chop saw.

Yet, he escaped harm.

I was sewing the final two pillow covers for our couch.

I piped the edges,

(I didn't do it the proper way, I was just shoving rope into the seam and sewing around it)

and as I was trying to cut the rope to the proper length

I was finagling the fabric, rope, and scissors,

I apparently forgot or neglected to make sure my finger was out the way.

I needed a lot of leverage to cut the rope,

and you guessed it.

As I snipped the rope,

I snipped my finger!

Thankfully my sweet husband was in the room at the time,

I don't do well with my own blood.

I made it to the bathroom sink just fine.

But after that I felt a little woozy.

My sweet husband is so wonderful!

He bandaged me up and looked at the wound!

He called my dad to make sure I didn't  need stitches,

and then has bandaged me up several times since.

And he cleaned up the mess!

He rocks!

If you look closely at this pillow you will see the carnage...

well some of it, it was EVERYWHERE!

 After washing and ironing they look like nothing happened!

P.S. My sweet husband's brother came home from his mission yesterday!

Blog Question #2

The last time I asked a few questions on my blog I got a great response and was able to figure out whatever I was having a problem with, so I'm hoping someone can help me with my next dilemma.

How does one upload a video into their post?

I tried hitting the little link that says "upload a video" and it let me choose the video I wanted and then it said it was uploading and then almost immediately after that it said that it had encountered an error and couldn't upload it. I've tried it in a few different internet browsers because sometimes things don't work with google crome, but it still didn't work....

P.S. Sorry about the video that doesn't work on the previous post, I was a little clueless and uploaded it as a picture... lol. ooops. Although, in my defense, I did try it a couple of times on my computer and it worked. But now it won't.... so sorry.

Busy Weekend

This last weekend was very busy!

But it was also very good!

I have to start out by giving a little background,

some background that I've tried telling before but the timing never felt quite right.

Serious, I wrote entire posts,

but then never posted them.

I've never wanted it to come across as if I'm hoping people will feel sorry for us,

because that is NOT what I want.

I just want people to be informed so they are a little more aware of others' feelings.

This weekend a few things happened that helped me to see a way to get across the feelings I want to,

which I will explain as the weekend's events unfold.

So the background:

My sweet husband and I struggle with infertility.

We've been trying for almost 2.5 years.

Some days are good

and some are not so good.

I'm grateful that we have each other to rely on!

So the first thing that happened that helped me decide to share this information was that 

we went to a new doctor!

I've been going to a doctor close to us and I haven't liked her since day one.

Seriously!

She wasn't very nice,

I'll leave it at that.

So after about a year and a half of her, she finally referred us to an infertility specialist.

The actual one she referred us to was not covered by our insurance so our insurance recommended the one we went to.

Turns out we LOVE our new doctor and his staff!

He personally came out and introduced himself to us while we were waiting for our name to be called.

And then he took us back to start our consultation!

He was very nice and explained everything that he did or wanted to do and answered our questions!

He also didn't really trust my previous doctor (which I really appreciated).

After an hour we left feeling hope!

Which to me is a success!

After that we headed to my parents home!

We woke up bright and early to head down to my little brother's cross country meet 

(I'm not entirely sure what they are called).

He's the one in the green shorts and white and green shirt.

This is his coach. He is so funny to watch, he gets SO into it!

Notice his feet (he was bouncing up and down cheering on his boys)!

This is their team after the race, they all got metals 

(even though one kid, the coach's son, forgot to put his one.. lol).

By the way, only the top 20 got metals,

and my brother's team was from the smaller division so they are pretty good!

They came in second in their division!

My little bro came in 7th in his division! 

After that we headed back home.

We listened to the last talk of Saturday morning conference 

and most of the afternoon session in the car on the ride home.

Don't think I'm a terrible person, but I did sleep some too, we woke up early and stayed up late!

However, I did wake up and hear a talk I needed to hear

(reason 2).

The talk is by Elder Neil L. Andersen.

I really loved the part where he talks about people that have a hard time having children.

I'm so grateful that the leaders of our Church are inspired by our Heavenly Father to say things that people need to hear!

Then after we got home we got ready for my sister's Junior Recital!

Although a little blurry, very cute picture of my talented sister (both of my sisters are talented)

She sang beautifully! 

She and her friend sang a duet together that also really good,

Sunday we watched conference and drove home, 

we also listened to the sessions we missed because the Church is so technologically advanced!
