Crafts! And other fun things!

I love to sew! Example one: my mom, my sisters, and me at the fashion district in LA loving all of the discount fabric!
Anyways, back to my story...
Sometimes it's very relaxing... other times not so much, but when it gets to be a headache I just take a break and do something else. Recently I've decided to try my hand a few new things. For a while I made quite a few baby dresses and some clothes for me. However, I decided to branch out. My Grandma gave me this cool book, A Stitch in Time, for my birthday. So I found some fun ideas in it. This rug for example. Some of the fabric I used in it, was given to me by my other grandma! I have awesome grandmas! And some was just some fabric I already had. It turned out kind of quirky, but I like it. I think I'm going to make another one but using some bright solid colors, that's what the one in the book uses and it looks really really cute! Some other inspiration came from craft blogs. I was starting to just have an entire cupboard of plastic grocery bags, and it was just getting a little ridiculous, but I didn't do anything about it. Then one day I was looking at blogs and saw this, after I saw that I remembered my mom had something like that. So I decided to make one. I based mine off of this one, but I changed it a little.
And this also came from a blog, but like the grocery bag holder, I changed it a little too, and I really like it! The inspiration came from this. It's really nice! Now I have almost another entire shelf to use for food!
And finally, this baby quilt. So I have an awesome sewing machine! I love it! It has some really cool stitches and stuff, so I thought I should try and figure out how to use all the cool gadgets it comes with. So I tried my hand at some machine quilting. It was pretty easy too! I used the freehand foot and followed the little flowers on the front and I really like what the back looks like, which is the picture just below this, and the other is a picture of the front and the back. I'd never done a piecing quilt but this blog post gave me the confidence that it wouldn't be very difficult, and it really wasn't!

In other news, my aunt and uncle came to stay with us this last weekend! It was a lot of fun! We live right on the way to their favorite vacationing spot and they decided to make their vacation a little longer and stay with us for a night! It was fun to talk and laugh with them! We watched a terrible movie... lol but to everyone's defense no one had seen it before... lol. We had some pizza, it was really good! And just a fun time!

On Sunday, we got to give talks in church, I think they went well. My talk was on faith and his was on repentance. I also got to give the lesson in Relief Society, it was on the priesthood. I think it went well.

When we were going to Bunkerville for the 4th of July, we stopped in a town on the way to get some food and we ran into some of our really good friends from school! It was pretty crazy, while we were ordering our food this guy got really close to us and said, "uhh, excuse me." Now we were really hot because I'm pretty sure this place didn't have their air conditioning on despite the fact that it was 105 outside, so we were a little annoyed anyways and then this guy was a little too close for comfort. So we turn around and are about to say, "What?!" (as in, what on earth could you need to stand so close to us for...lol), when we notice it's our friend! So we say, "hey what are you doing here?!" I look for his wife and I'm just about to creep up and scare her, when she looks over, screams, runs at me and picks me up! Lol, it was pretty funny and everyone was looking at us, but it was so fun to see them!

I don't have the pictures from the 4th yet, so you'll have to wait for a while for updates on that, but it was great!

But we did go to the lake on the 5th and it was GREAT! Here are a few samples of that!
My sister!
My dad!
My mom!
My husband!
My cousin, doing a back-flip off the kneeboard... in all of the pictures he looks like his older brother, but it was most definitely him, it was really weird.

Then yesterday, I looked out our window and this is what I saw!

And this is just a fun picture of us with the shirts my little brother sent us, he's on a mission in Florida, so he sent us all Florida shirts. And can I just say, that he did a really good job picking out shirts for all of us!

  2. Oh my goodness Addie! That rug is so cute! I love it! And the quilt... Oh my gosh! I love what you did with that fabric! Did it take you forever to cut out all the little squares? The machine quilting thing worked out really well too! Love ya! -Shaye

  3. Thanks you guys!

And Shaye, thanks! I'm glad you really like the rug, it definitely has personality lol. And the quilt didn't take too long actually because I found on another blog this really easy way to cut it out. I'll put a link up for that too, I should have in the first place.

  5. Thanks to both of you!

Sorry Dad, I thought I had a better picture from that trip, but I think that was the only one I got. I guess we'll have to get some better pictures at Lake Powell! Love you too!
