Fabric

As I’ve been thinking about what colors to paint the house, I’ve tried to come up with ways to make everything work together and look good together. Since we will have blue countertops and blue couches fairly close by, I wanted to make the blue countertops kind of blend in, rather than everyone’s first reaction as, “Wow, those are some BLUE countertops,” which was pretty much my reaction. Also, hopefully some day we’ll be able to replace them so I didn’t want blue to be the main focus of the room.

So one day inspiration struck! Fabric! I needed to find fabric that would help tie in all the colors and it would help in deciding what color to paint the walls.

In between volleyball games, my mother-in-law and I went fabric shopping. She’s on a quest to help me find every fabric store in her area, quite a task really! But this place turned out to be PERFECT!

I found so many beautiful fabrics, and the best part was the prices were reasonable! I love fabric, but I just can’t spend a ton of money on it! When it’s cheaper to buy a dress than it is to buy the fabric for it, I just can’t do it… but that’s another story.

The moral of the story is: I found some awesome fabrics!

My favorite is the leaf one. I think it will definitely help in choosing a wall color (not all the leaves are hearts, I think that is just a fluke in that part of the swatch). The brown one is beautiful and will help incorporate the colors in, and the plaid, I just love it. It reminds me of Laurie from Trading Spaces. She always had such beautiful fabrics!

At another fabric store that I went to alone, but my mother-in-law told me about I found some more fun fabrics! However, this one isn't for our house, I'm currently making it into a skirt.... sadly I'm having a little bit of trouble because I made my own pattern and sometimes.... they just don't work out the way you plan. But I think I'll be able to fix it and it will work!
When I found it, I fell in love. So then I had to find some fabric to match it because the brown isn't a normal brown. So I'd need to make a shirt to go along with it. After a kind lady pointed me back to the back room, I found so many awesome jersey fabrics! So I got some brown and some white (which I may or may not have turned kind of orange when I washed all my fabrics... if anyone has any idea on how to turn a white fabric back to white, I'm all ears... oops) jersey-knit fabric. I was actually working on the skirt, but after getting frustrated I thought I'd do something else for a while and come back to it later. Oh, and I realized after I got back that I actually have shirt that will match it, it's coral and I think it will look really cute with it. Well, lucky me, now I'll have two shirts to go with it!
